Resource Description

Suitable for 14-19-year olds (high schools and college), this article and accompanying activity sheet can be used in the classroom, STEM clubs and at home.

This resource links to KS3 and KS4/Grade 9-10 and Grade 11-12 Geography.

It can also be used as a careers resource and links to Gatsby Benchmarks (UK):
Gatsby Benchmark 2: Learning from career and labour market information
Gatsby Benchmark 4: Linking curriculum learning to careers

• This teaching resource explains the work of Professor Lixin Wang, a hydrologist at the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, USA. He is investigating the formation of fog and dew in dryland environments in order to understand where the moisture comes from, and what will happen to these ecosystems as a result of climate change.

• This resource also contains an interview with Lixin and his former student, Dr Kudzai Farai Kaseke.

• The activity sheet provides ‘talking points’ (based on Bloom’s Taxonomy) to prompt students to reflect on Lixin’s research and challenges them to create their own dew collector.

• A PowerPoint (that reiterates the key points in the article and highlights the range of careers available in the field of hydrology) can be downloaded from the Futurum Careers website.
