Resource Description

Introducing our “Spring Literacy Pack” – a collection of engaging, exclusively printable activities designed for parents and students to enjoy together during this period of remote learning. These activities have been carefully curated to provide invaluable literacy practice for kindergarteners and first graders, ensuring that learning remains a delightful and enriching experience, even from a distance.

Who is this printable literacy pack for? This printable literacy pack is thoughtfully crafted with kindergarten and first-grade students in mind, catering to their unique learning needs and abilities.

What skills will students focus on while interacting with this resource?

Comprehension: Students will immerse themselves in spring-themed passages, combining high-frequency words from the Dolch and Fry’s Lists. After reading these passages, they will sharpen their understanding through multiple-choice and short-answer questions. In another activity, they’ll complete cloze sentences by filling in missing CVC or CVCe words.

Fluency: To enhance fluency, students will read each comprehension passage three times, coloring a butterfly with each reading. This repetitive practice enhances their reading speed and expression.

Phonics: Students will dive into phonics by practicing CVC and CVCe words. They’ll determine the need for a magic ‘e’ at the end of certain words, using pictures and partially written corresponding words. A fun cut-and-paste activity involves sorting words by their short or long vowel/magic ‘e’ patterns. Additionally, students will create their color code as they label CVC and CVCe words. Vowels included are short ‘a,’ ‘i,’ ‘o,’ and ‘u,’ while long vowel patterns encompass ‘a_e,’ ‘o_e,’ ‘i_e,’ and ‘u_e.’

Writing: Every activity in this pack encourages a written response from students. They’ll provide concise answers in the comprehension and cloze sentence activities, while also writing missing words in the sorting exercises. Furthermore, students will hone their sentence-writing skills by crafting sentences centered on the CVC or CVCe words they are focusing on.

With our “Spring Literacy Pack,” learning transcends the physical classroom, offering a blend of comprehension, fluency, phonics, and writing activities that nurture young minds and foster a love for literacy.
