Resource Description

This is set five in the series.

This resource provides a step-by-step phonics lesson that you can easily follow in your classroom. It also has activities that allow for application of the new phonics skills you have taught. I follow a specific phonics sequence and this resource is the fifth set of sounds in that sequence. The first four sets are available.

Consistency promotes efficiency and you will note that teaching procedures and activities are the same for each set. This allows you to establish routines in your teaching and fosters independence in your students.

My phonics lessons typically look like this:

Review: auditory and/or visual drills

Phonemic awareness: phoneme isolation, blending, segmenting and/or phoneme manipulation

New sound: introduction of the new phonics skill

Application: a variety of activities that allow for application of the new skill at phoneme, word and sentence level.
