Resource Description
Grade 12 Mathematical Literacy Lesson Plan: Data Handling – Summarizing Data.
Lesson Objectives
By the end of this lesson, learners will be able to:
- Define and calculate the interquartile range (IQR), including determining Q1, Q2 (median), and Q3.
- Understand the minimum and maximum values needed to construct a box-and-whisker plot.
- Draw and label a box-and-whisker plot, identifying the five main components (minimum, Q1, Q2, Q3, and maximum).
- Define and calculate the measures of central tendency: mean, median, and mode.
- Understand and explain data spread, including percentiles.
Curriculum Alignment (CAPS)
This lesson aligns with the Mathematical Literacy curriculum in the CAPS document for Grade 12. The focus is on summarizing data, with an emphasis on measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode), interquartile range (IQR), and box-and-whisker plots. Students will also learn how to calculate percentiles and understand data spread.
