Resource Description

Body image (and behaviour patterns choices) stem from how a person sees their own body, which may often be in comparison to others.
There are plenty of people who are not especially happy with their own body image. Some are happy or neutral about their bodies however, usually, people always seem to find something or other about themselves that they feel needs attention or could do with ‘alteration’.
According to nutrition experts, body image does not just arise from who / what we see in the mirror; our experiences, beliefs and others’ opinions all play a part in the way we see ourselves.
This worksheet and case study has been designed for young people to take a closer, critical look at how we see ourselves (and in relation to others) as well as the healthiest way to approach this ‘looking in’ process.

Ext. Activities would be to have the class discuss the case study as a group (or class debate) so that we have a collective account of where we go wrong when we look at ourselves. Comparing notes often helps young learners to have a fresh alternate opinion.
