Resource Description
Scissor skills are an essential part of pencil grasp development. Cutting is an easy, fun way to practice the hand muscles necessary for writing. We use the same muscles and fingers (thumb, index, and middle fingers) to cut and write. It is an essential development skill for school readiness and supports writing and pencil grasp development.
The WriteAbility cutting skills activity resource (Vol 2) was created by an occupational therapist and includes guidelines for the use and development of cutting skills. This is the second resource in this series and aims to support scissor skills and fine motor development of children between the age of 4 to 9 years old, depending on their skill level.
This resource includes a variety of cutting activities that can be used in the classroom by teachers, at home by parents or therapists as part of treatment. Exercises are graded, easy to use, and lots of fun. (35 PDF printable pages includes guidelines for development, scissor grasp information)
