Resource Description

This resource is aimed at First Additional Language learners with the focus on sounds ee and eu.

Words covered in this doc :

been, beer, reus, geen teen, geur, leer, bees, keur, veur, deur, lees, vrees, wees, neus, seur

  • First these words can be learned by means of memory style games you can do on the board (ie write the words down in Afrikaans as well as the English but perhaps mix them up and start out by asking them to read out loud after you (you point with your ruler).
  • After that  you ask a keen volunteer to come and see how many words they can mix and match.  Offer the person who can remember the most a little reward of some sort (perhaps a merit or sticker in the books etc )
  • Now erase all the English and ask 2 children to compete by standing and splatting the correct Afrikaans word when you call out the English.  (Welcome to flashwords memory games to make rote learning doable and dare we think it, fun!)
  • In the worksheet they should be able to follow easily after they have familiarised the words together with you.
