The Word Association Board Game

This board game is a fun way for learners to think about the associations that their minds make all the time. The game can be played by 2 to 6 players at a time with one game board – more copies can be made to allow groups to play together at the same time. Players throw the die to find out which colour they are and what their initial word is. The aim is for the players to fill up their column with words that relate to their initial word. The first player to fill their column is the winner.

Pages of other words are provided for an alternative way to play the game. The alternative way is to play with colour-coded words where the words follow a sequence of association, so not all the words in their column relate to each other – the current word only has to be associated with the previous word. In this version, players collect all their coloured words first and then decide on an appropriate order in which to place them in their columns.
