Resource Description

This chapter will revise what you learnt in grade 10 regarding how to quantify the changes that take place
in chemical reactions.
Sometimes it is important to know exactly how many particles (e.g. atoms or molecules) are in a sample of
a substance, or what quantity of a substance is needed for a chemical reaction to take place.
The amount of substance is so important in chemistry that it is given its own name, which is the mole. The mole is used to count out a given number of particles, whether they are atoms, molecules, formula units, ions, or electrons. Scientists use the mole to make counting large numbers of particles easier.
