Life Orientation : Development of the Self (All Grades) with Case Studies, Questions and Memo.
R30.19
Resource Description
This Resource contains Case Studies which can serve as an entire lesson (group work), or it can be an extension activity following the topic ‘Development of the Self. (Life Orientation or English Class Debate / Orals)
It helps pupils to look at how they are developing in the world around them about bodily changes (in this instance, the common teenage problem of (embarrassing) perspiration. Followed by this is a short case study on a young boy being abused by someone he trusts (a teacher) and another case story of a girl who feels she needs to lie about her ‘status’ by pretending she has more money than she does. These are short case studies (about a smallish paragraph each) which do not offer too much detail. There is therefore less clutter, and pupils have to fill in the gaps with their imagination.
They are asked to group together for the three case studies and develop ideas/analyses of the various case studies. They could have a class discussion or debate to see who has the most viable option in terms of advice for the three people at the centre of each case study.
The teacher can emphasise that as humans, we are ‘social’ creatures; therefore, putting our ideas together makes us stronger and more able to cope with (harsh/cold) realities.
Format: Ms Word (highly customisable).
