Spanish Attributes Game / Juego de Atributos.  Games are being recognized as a very powerful educational tool.  They are mental and physical activities that favors the development of children integrally and harmoniously. Playing will offer children thousands of possibilities to achieve their development such as investigating, creating, having fun, discovering, fantasizing, or getting excited. Thanks to these actions, the child manages to come into contact with the world satisfactorily. The practice of these activities will show them to learn without realizing it. The best way to teach the concepts to your students is through play. We give you some ideas and excellent tricks for you to achieve it. Learning a second language… has never been so much fun!

Instructions for the attributes game “My Favorite Martian” to be use in your classroom as a whole group activity.

1. Print the entire following material preferably on 8.5 “x 11″Cardstock and cut the cards on the dotted lines. Laminate for durability. Paste page 1 on the front of an envelope as a cover and store the remaining material inside; keep it in a visible and safe place to play often.

2. When playing, place cards with the attributes on the board so the children see all the possible attributes and how different are their Martians from one another. Practice the vocabulary on the card. 3.Take the cards with the Martians and be sure to shuffle them thoroughly before distributing to your students. You must distribute all of them, though some of the students may get more than one, in that case, each will have more opportunities to be the Martian winner.

4. Ask your students to stand up and to carefully observe their Martians and their different attributes.

5. Add excitement to the game by asking the children to beat the drums (tapping with their hands on their desks and, of course, asking for silence as you go on) each time you choose a new attribute from the cards as you prefer or randomly (see and place the cards following the example).

6. Follow the visual example on the next page.

7. Each time you choose an attribute and the students’ cards do not match, he will flip the card (if playing with more than one card) or he should sit down immediately. Every time fewer students will be standing and that could keep playing until the end when only one will be the winner.
