Phonological Awareness – middle sounds
R34.50
Resource Description
Children in Grade One should have had a good deal of practice with phonemic awareness. This is hearing the sounds in words and being able to identify beginning, middle and final sounds. Phonemic awareness is not attaching letters to sounds. However, once children start learning phonics, they begin to match these sounds to letters. While they might have no difficulty with beginning or ending letters in words, I have found that many children struggle with middle sounds. This is especially true with children whose first language is not English. This activity gives practice in identifying middle sounds interactively. Use with pegs or counters. These activities are always much enjoyed and are ideal for informal assessments, use in remedial settings or by speech therapists.
