Resource Description
HAVING FUN WITH NUMBERS!
Counting up to 10 is the base of all number work. The more frequently it’s practised, the better the retention and recall.
This 6-page resource includes number cards that can be used to engage young learners, have fun and (at the same time) improve working memory. Working memory is the information held in the brain that can be retrieved straight away.
The cards can be used in any number (pun!) of ways. I have included instructions for two commonly played games below.
The number tracing and word writing will consolidate the learning.
Game 1: Snap
Print 2 to 3 copies of the number cards.
Stack all the cards into one pile. The first player takes a card and places it face up where all players can see it. The next player puts a card down on top of that card. If the cards match, players must shout ‘snap!’ The first player to shout ‘snap’ gets to take (face-up) cards. The winner is the player with the most cards.
Game 2: Matching cards
Print 2 to 3 copies of the number cards.
1. Place the cards face down and spread them out. Each player tries to find matching cards by turning over 2 cards.
2. If the cards do not match, they’re put back in the same place (face down). If the cards do match, the player keeps them and has another turn.
3. Once all the cards have been paired up, the player with the most cards is the winner.
With compliments
