English First Additional Language (FAL) Grade 9 – Comprehension Test + Memo

This document consists of a reading passage and questions based on Barrett’s taxonomy suitable for grade 9 FAL learners.

The passage is too long to be used in a formal assessment test, however it is perfect to do in class (extended number of lessons) or at home.

The worksheet tests the following:

The learner’s vocabulary.

Understanding of the content of the passage.

Ability to paraphrase answers.

Evaluating and appreciating what he/she has read.

Even the learner who hates reading will enjoy this passage as it describes weird and wonderful creatures that really exist! Looking at the colourful real-life pictures that accompany the paragraph will convince a reluctant reader to continue reading about this newly discovered critter at home.
