Counting Syllables – Phonemic Awareness
R28.75
Resource Description
Learning to read is one of a young child’s earliest accomplishments. Without being able to read efficiently, a child will struggle throughout his schooling. A great deal has been written about the science of reading and it has been found that a poor foundation in phonemic awareness is the most common reason why children struggle to learn to read. Being able to break longer words into syllables will untimately help pupils with spelling and decoding unknown sight words. This ‘On the Farm’ activity allows children to decide how many syllables are in each each word by using the number of claps.
